When you arrive at the house, you will undergo an initial discussion and orientation with the Program Director, including a dialogue on the past events that led you here. Together, we will start discussing what you want to achieve by engaging the support at Tharros. There are general rules of the house that everyone is required to follow. However, experience has shown us, not every person with an addiction or alcoholism is the same. Our program isn’t cookie cutter; we want to get to know you and help ensure that you have what is necessary for you to achieve your goals.

I want to leave room for creativity and mistakes and self acceptance because these are all part of life. With no judgement we can feel safe to explore and emerge; we get a chance to see ourselves in a new light. On my first night of teaching cooking, in the Tharros kitchen, a home for recovering addicts, one of the guys blurted out “Are you gonna be comfortable working with 8 addicts?

Successful long-term recovery is more than just abstinence from substances it’s a lifestyle change; replacing negative or unhealthy behaviors/patterns with positive coping skills, healthy routines, community and support. Q: WHAT IF I HAVE A JOB OR ATTEND CLASSES AT A LOCAL UNIVERSITY?

”…My quick retort was “Yes, I am very much at home in a kitchen… Teras offers a shared (double) space for $5,500 per month. If you have many outside commitments, or are ready to return to work, Teras can be a good entry point directly from treatment. For others, after 1-6 months at Tharros, clients may choose to transition to Teras. There is a saying that “all we need to know we learned in kindergarten”. In the Tharros kitchen with “my guys” I get to witness what is possible.

Boston’s Structured Sober Living, Tharros House, Shares:

Teras does not provide transportation, but you may have a car, and ubers are readily available.

Not all sober living homes are the same and in fact beyond the differences in “amenities”, there are many other important factors to consider. The road to recovery from alcoholism and addiction requires significant emotional, behavioral, and intellectual changes. This might sound scary, but it doesn’t have to be. Whether you’ve just completed a drug detox, alcohol rehab, or any other kind of substance abuse treatment, we know recovery takes time and we know that you’re worth it. Whatever your primary treatment method, you’ve had a great start because your body is now free of alcohol and drugs. We want to help you transition to a fulfilled and enjoyable life in sobriety.

Teras is located two miles away from Tharros (both Tharros and Teras are in Lexington MA). This less structured residence is designed to support clients when they have 25+ hours of work or other outside structure weekly, which can be developed with assistance from our team, in the first 30 days. Teras and Tharros are not affiliated with any clinical treatment (IOP/PHP, etc.) and our focus is on helping each client engage the best clinical support for their own circumstance. We have many local connections, including McLean Hospital, and we  help clients who don’t have clinical supports in place connect with appropriate resources. A study of 300 individuals whom resided in Sober Living Homes (SLH) was published in 2010 by a division of the NIH (National Institute of Health) (Douglas L. Polcin, 2010).
